Welcome to the View from the Top podcast, Season 2. In today’s show Aaron Walker shares a heart tugging story about a woman and her colleague and the choices they made on Sept 11.

At the core of the story is this question -- What are you delaying on that there is warning signs that you’re not dealing with?

We hope you enjoy the podcast. All the highlights, resources, and next steps can be found below. Listen to the full episode here and learn more at viewfromthetop.com.

Something Wasn’t Right

Aaron shares a story by Sean Coen in the story grid about a lady on the 96th floor during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks who could feel a heat wave kind of come through the glass.  She knew something wasn’t right so she grabbed one of her co-workers and headed toward the exit. The co-worker decided that she needed to go back and get the pictures of her children and family.  That was her fatal mistake because as she went back, the second tower was hit by another airplane and everyone on that floor lost their life.

What are you delaying on right now that you know there are warning signs and you are not dealing with?” - Aaron Walker

So that is Today’s Challenge: I want you to reflect right after this episode and generate a list of things you know you have been putting off. Don’t evaluate why you have been putting these things off, just identify those tasks. If you can get them done in 5 minutes or less, do them right away. If they’ll take a bit longer to execute. Put a plan in place. Establish a date when you will knock out those items.

And did you know that you are much more likely to accomplish those tasks that you tell people about in public? Don’t keep your to-do list a secret. Send a tweet to me @alien … and Aaron @VFTCoach

Welcome to the View from the Top podcast, Season 2. Today, Aaron Walker discusses I’m stuck and I don’t know what to do.  We will go on a journey with Aaron while he is earning his pilot's license. We hope you enjoy the podcast. All the highlights, resources, and next steps can be found below. Listen to the full episode and learn more at viewfromthetop.com.

Unpacking the Difference-Mastermind Groups

Aaron received an email asking what is the difference between an accountability group and a mastermind group.  He has been involved in both for over 2 decades. His simple definition of the difference is that a mastermind group includes like-minded people that come together that help encourage, provide resources support and provide accountability to the goals you have set.

In mastermind groups, theoretically you will only go so far; there is only so much personal information you will share. Quite honestly there is a limit.” - Aaron Walker

Unpacking the Difference-Accountability Groups

An accountability group is another level.  This is a smaller group that you want to share with intimately and they ask pointed questions.  The topics range from your personal life at home and with your family and your faith to your business.  The questions come every week, so it is very difficult to lie which makes you think during the moment.

I suggest that your accountability group is all men or all women.” - Aaron Walker

Success and Significance

Danny talks about his experience with accountability groups and mastermind groups.  Both he has experienced are spiritual in nature and what they do in Iron Sharpens Iron.  In the accountability group pain points came up and he gave his group permission and asked them to ask the hard questions about his life and marriage.  In the mastermind group it is organized by topics. How do men lead a life of success and significance.

Getting Stuck

Aaron wanted to learn how to fly and started lessons.  They started to do full power stalls which causes it to break left.  Aaron let go of the throttle and grabbed the yoke which caused the plane to stall.  His instructor told him not to let go but Aaron did on the next stall. At this point the plane quits and Aaron was stuck.  The airplane would not start; the instructor had cut the fuel selector switch off to prove a point. They ended up trying to make an emergency landing on a golf course but the instructor pointed it straight done and ended up getting it started.

I said that thing would have worked a lot better if I hadn’t have been stuck and you would have told me what to do before we did the full power stalls I wouldn’t have been quite as nervous.” - Aaron Walker

4 Steps to Getting Yourself Unstuck

  1. When we get stuck we need better instruction- surround yourself with people who have the answers.  “Get trusted advisors around you; be vulnerable, be transparent, be willing to say I don’t know and that will help you get unstuck.” - Aaron Walker
  2. We try to get back where we were at.  Find a place that is even better. Strive to go forward and not back. Stop comparisons and change your mindset.
  3. Don’t compare yourself to your colleagues, friends or family.  You will always feel like you don’t measure up if you continue to compare yourself.  Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle or end. You will remain stuck.
  4. You’re trying to prove something to somebody; maybe it’s yourself, maybe it’s your dad, maybe it’s a brother, maybe it’s somebody you need to prove yourself to.  It gets you stuck. Stop doing that.  You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone.” - Aaron Walker

Take Action … Next Steps from the Show

Today’s challenge is to get connected.  The number one enemy of excellence is isolation.  Danny encourages you to be a part of the Iron Sharpens Iron mastermind that he has been a part of for the last three years.  This has been the secret to Danny’s success.

Welcome to the View from the Top podcast, Season 2. In today’s show, Aaron Walker interviews Chris Brogan. We hope you enjoy the podcast. All the highlights, resources, and next steps can be found below. Listen to the full episode and learn more at viewfromthetop.com.

Early Blogging and Online Community

Chris Brogan is the CEO of Owner Media Group that creates and sells online courses, e-Learning and training programs that helps you discover how to attract more customers, sell what you know online and live a life on your own terms, grow your email list, and his focus is to provide you the educational tools you need to make your life and business thrive.

Chris is a giving individual and author.  He comes up from an entrepreneurial past and began blogging when most people thought it was journaling.  Chris was part of a virtual community and his first blog took 8 years to become successful. He was writing about a lot of different things and always shared his opinions, but writing from the wrong place.

In the old days I would give my opinion on a lot of things.  There is one thing we humans have about as much as we inhale and exhale and that is we opinions.” - Chris Brogan

Productivity Blog

Chris was writing about personal productivity and was gaining a lot of traction.  He believes it became popular because everyone was offering what type of softwares you should have so he thought he would start asking what are you trying to accomplish first.  Chris has been able to ride this through a lot of different waves due to his style.

I had a different way of saying things and it was a way I guess I connected with people and made them see themselves.  One of the weird compliments I receive a lot is you make it look easy.” - Chris Brogan

Why Should You Hire Me?

Chris believes that there is more than one way to get to your end goal.  He believes that he articulates things so they are actionable. Chris wants people to get in, get the information, go try it for themselves, prove if it works for them and then get out.  He looks at things objective, pliable and flexible.

One other thing that separates me from the rest is that I don’t try to stick to one approach; I like to take a lot of different paths to a goal.” - Chris Brogan

Paying Attention To Your Tribe

Chris tries to make as many paths as he can so he can be found.  He just completed his 9th book Find Your Writing Voice.  As part of this book you can join a Facebook group and has created a road to community to give his listeners a voice.  Chris is very easy to get ahold of and is very engaging.

I don’t really spend as much time on my complainers but I do what I can to love on the people who feel like I’m helping them.” - Chris Brogan

Welcome to the View from the Top podcast, Season 2. Today, Aaron Walker and Danny “Sunshine” Bauer discuss practicing radical generosity in business.  We hope you enjoy the podcast. All the highlights, resources, and next steps can be found below. Listen to the full episode and learn more at viewfromthetop.com.

Personal and Professional Highlights of 2018

Aaron takes a look back and sees the growth and the excitement of what's going on in Iron Sharpens Iron. ISI grew 35 percent last year. From podcasts, Alexa briefs, blogs and FaceBook live, developing the processes and the systems have been essential.  Aaron credits Scott Beebe, with My Business on Purpose as helping them focus on developing good systems and processes and Aaron’s executive assistant (and daughter) Brooke with helping with these systems and processes. One of the things Aaron is most excited about in 2018 is that they have  developed a strategy and a system by which the men that join Iron Sharpens Iron can go through eight modules to onboard easier so they are prepared to join the ISI community.

Most businesses are trying to grow two to five percent a year and we grew 35 percent and that took a lot of hard work.” - Aaron Walker

Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind

Danny Sunshine Bauer wants to strongly encourage the listeners to apply to Iron Sharpens Iron. His own experience with Scott Beebe who Danny says he is a systems guy and a genius with the group and can help out so many different business owners, but within the community that Big A has built at View From The Top.  Danny has seen similar growth in his business with Better Leaders and credits surrounding himself with men in Iron Sharpens Iron.

I attribute so much of the success that we've experienced because we meet consistently, you know, we've built those relationships. It's authentic, it's deep, ans sometimes you get that truth that sometimes hurts, but it's a wake up call. It's mere moments and it gets you back on course.” - Danny Sunshine Bauer

Delegate, Delegate, Delegate

In 2019, Aaron wants you to think about delegating.  Focus on letting go and delegating what you can to grow your business.  He wants to encourage you in 2019 that you do not have to do everything and to hand what you can over to someone else and let them handle it.

You either gotta eliminate, delegate or automate in your business and you've got to figure out what only you can do and then automate or delegate the rest of the things.” - Aaron Walker

Winning Business Strategy

Being radically generous is a winning business strategy.  At VFTT, the giftology philosophy exists in small gifts. They do personalized anniversary cards and they order those for every couple and it has their name on the front of the card and send on their anniversaries..They also do a few other things, not because they have to but because they love the guys in ISI and appreciate them and they want them to stay around and want them to feel welcomed. Aaron wants members to feel that they belong to an organization that includes my family as well.

“Think about the ways that you can add value to the people that are in your community. What are the little things that you can do? We do videos a lot and we send out personalized videos to each and every member thanking them for the things that they've contributed. Or we'll send them welcoming them to the group or we'll send videos out a wishing them Merry Christmas or can't wait to see you at the live event in there.” - Aaron Walker

Take Action … Next Steps from the Show

Today’s challenge is to practice radical generosity in your business.

Aaron and Danny just want you guys to really make it a part of what you're doing. Try to allocate a certain amount of your budget each year for others.

Allocate a certain amount to give generously on purpose.

If you accept this challenge send us a note on Twitter to Aaron (@vftcoach) and Danny (@alienearbud) and use the hashtag #viewfromthetop
